Inception Spoiler

Inception:
Inception is based around the concept of infiltrating peoples dreams to obtain there valuable information un-noticed. In doing this jobs Dom Cobbs has become a fugitive and barely has time to visit his children and the only way he can redeem himself is by completing the 'impossible inception' instead of stealing information from a target they must put an idea in there head the only way to do this is to make them dream within a dream, which is something that had previously not be successful before. During the dreams he gets his deceased wife appear witch often messes up the job by revealing him to the target and the surrounding enviroment which then reacts and try's to remove him from the dream. In the end he pulls of the job and returns to reality a freeman and in one of the last scenes you see him returning home to be with his kids.

Inception makes a good thriller as it is set in a 'grow ups world', in a city. Also due to the fact of the spontaneity of dreams you have no idea at all on what is about to happen, this keeps you on the edge of your seat adding suspense and keeping the watcher engaged and also making it very mysterious as you are never to certain what is going on. There is a very emotional bond with Dom throughout the film as there are flickers of his deceased wife and at one part you find out he uses his dreams to visit her. Ariadne is a very naive girl who never understood quite what was going on or why she was asked for the job but she goes along with it, she seems very shocked when she hears about his wife. There was a kind twist at the end of the film were you see Dom with his kids but see the totem still spinning making you believe he is dreaming, but after the credits you hear something spin the start to wobble hinting that he was not in a dream. I believe that the film was a successful thriller as it generated all aspects of one for me. I would personally rate this film... 3/5 as when the film ends for me it doesn't answer some of my questions and it didn't seem to lead onto a sequel so theres questions un answered.

Thriller Set

For this type of image you could associate a Crime Thriller. You could have a underground drug lab set up inside the old boarded up pub and the leader of the gang murdered a inspectors wife and he seeks revenge trying to find him and shut him down. From this task we learnt suitable places in which a thriller could take place.

Thriller Collage

These are all images that I think of when I hear the word Thriller. There are many close ups in thrillers to add tension to the film letting you see a characters emotion or expressions giving you an understanding on what has happened or what is about to happen. All of these images are in low-key lighting this is the type of lighting associated with Thrillers. I have also included the words 'Mystery' and 'Suspense' as that is the effect a thriller should have on you. The typical kind of set used in a Thriller would be a city as they are set in a 'grown-ups world' so people can relate to it.

By doing this activity I have learned roughly how many slates there are in an introduction, the order in which they up, so it helped me by showing the order of importance, I have also learned how long it should roughly be and how long slates should appear on screen.

From doing this I have learned what kind of roles are involved in a title sequence as we were looking more in depth and also why the production companies are always first in a title sequence due to there rights.

Art of the Title- 9 Frame Analysis

This makes it seem very futuristic as there appears to be a 'alien' on a women's face this also adds danger to the atmosphere.
This is a shot of a planet and of outer space, this is showing that it is set in space and very futuristic.
This makes people think about whats happening and adds intensity as it makes you wanna know what happens next.
In this still, it is showing a planet with a 'shuttle' crashing or moving towards a planet, Fiorina "Fury" 161, this then suggests that this is were the film takes place. This helps set the scene.
The text in the introduction is quite bold, which makes it the main focus of the clip, but the stars in the background help set the scene by suggesting it is in space.
The lighting make this scene seem very dark and gloomy giving it a 'mysterious' atmosphere. It also begins to suggest that it could be a horror or sci-fi, due to the odd 'egg' and the surrounding area looking very futuristic.
This clip is showing two of the characters, but it is more focused on the women at the back suggesting that she could be a main character and the other person is very blurred and difficult to make out.

In this still it is again showing the women which also backs up the point of her potentially being a main character, but the smashed glass adds suspense and gets the audience thinking about how it has happened as it was not smashed in the last clip.

In this clip it is showing something 'drifting' of into space this suggests that it could be a sci-fi film. It is also very dark giving it an eerie atmosphere.

Thrillers

What Makes a Good Thriller Film?
There has been and always will be Thrillers, it's difficult to say you don't like Thrillers. They are a mash-up of aspects from many different genres but will always mainly focus on one area. With many genres I find myself losing interest or not taking in the full story, but when i'm watching a Thriller every minute has me anticipating what will happen next, this is what makes a good thriller film the fact that it engages the audience and makes them think.

Compare Three Thrillers:

Knight and Day:
Knight and Day is a good example of a mash-up of genres as it has romance, action, comedy ect... Tom Cruise plays a secret agent, who on his last mission was meant to die but he survived, upon meeting Cameron Diaz he feels as if people believe they are working together so he 'bumps' into a few times and saves her, as the film develops you can sense a close relationship forming between the two. Personally I found it slightly difficult to connect with the film at times and unlike other thriller films rather than keep you guessing it's more there to enjoy and just sit back

V for Vendetta:
Out of every film I have watched V for Vendetta was by far one of the best Thrillers I have ever seen. It is about the mysterious crime fighter V (Hugo Weaving) who hides his identity with a Guy Fawkes mask, set out on revenge on the corrupted futuristic government who control everyone through there huge influence on media, changing the stories to benefit them for the own selfish greed. But no good thriller film can go without some blood shed as V's route to revenge is a bloody one, but along the way falls for a girl named Evey (Natalie Portman). The main reason for this is that it makes you think. It also allows you to come up with you own views and opinions on who this V really is under the mask, its almost as if you can create your own back story about this V,  it enables the audience to almost make the film there own.

Jaws:
Jaws is a giant man eating shark who terrorises the little island of Amity after the first attack Chief Brody (Roy Scheider) calls in the help of an oceanographer Matt Hooper (Richard Dreyfuss) and sets out to rid the island of this terror, but when the attacks increase and Chief Brody is running out of options he in lists the help of shark hunter Quint (Robert Shaw) to help catch and kill the man eater. Not all goes to plan though when the shark attacks the boat and it slowly begins to sink and waiting in the water below is Jaws. Jaws is a thriller but with a main focus on horror, for me this has the effect of anticipation just waiting and guessing when the shark will attack next and who will be the prey. It also leaves questions which still remain un-answered in my opinion and that is where did they come from how did this shark grow to such an exceptional size, this also captivates the audience making them about the film more.
